New York  March 2^nd 1992, San Marino joins the United Nations Organization widely acclaimed by its members.

San Marino is a nation among nations despite its small, very small size.

It’s a republic with a parliament of 60 members, The Great and General Council and 2 heads of state, the Captains Regent who remain in office for 6 months.

It’s located on the Italian peninsula near the Adriatic coast. 60 square km. 30,000 inhabitants.          

That’s all there is to it. This mountain, the Titano,

and little more.

On the top, the old town, the capital with the government building. All around tracts of largely clay soil, a sign of centuries old endemic poverty.

How did it ever manage so small and poor to become a nation?
